Preventative Dentistry

Oral Health Examinations

At The Dentist Gallery, we recommend patients attend regular oral health examinations, as this can enable our dentists to identify any potential problems at an early stage. Keeping on top of your oral health can help to prevent problems from escalating, which means that you can not only save time and money, but you could also save yourself from unnecessary pain.

During your oral health examination, your dentist will provide you with practical advice on how to care for your teeth and gums. This will help to ensure that your mouth stays healthy, and your teeth and gums stay fully functional for as long as possible. We also provide advice for children who may need a little assistance in developing their daily teeth cleaning routine, to help them to establish good mouth care practices for life.

We aim to provide you a lifetime of total-body wellness through healthy teeth and gums. To accomplish this, we proudly offer the following preventative dental techniques:

  • Complimentary oral cancer screenings
  • Sealants
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Nightguards to protect teeth from damage caused by grinding

If you are looking to book in for your routine check-up, our team would be happy to help. Simply contact our practice on 020 3744 0904 to arrange an appointment.

Hygienist Appointments

Our hygienists help patients to maintain high levels of oral health. Regular visits to a hygienist can help to ensure that your teeth and gums stay clean and healthy, as the hygienist will remove the build-up of plaque, which may otherwise lead to gum disease.

Tooth decay and gum disease are the biggest cause of tooth loss in adults, which emphasises the importance of maintaining a good oral hygiene routine. If gum disease is left untreated, it can lead to sore, swollen and bleeding gums, not to mention bad breath. Your overall health is also affected by your oral health, with gum disease being linked to heart disease, strokes and diabetes.

Our hygienists will be able to advise you on the most effective teeth cleaning methods to practice at home, in between having your teeth cleaned professionally. We have found from experience most of our patients need guidance on how to properly brush their teeth, especially in between. We have made it one of our missions to go to local schools and give lessons on this, encouraging a good oral healthcare routine from an early age. On your first hygiene appointment at The Dentist Gallery you will receive one of our special Nano toothbrushes, along with instructions on how to use it. Please see our GIF animations about the correct techniques to brushing and flossing.

Keeping your mouth clean and healthy will not only improve your appearance, but it will also ensure that your breath stays fresh and most importantly, will help to ward off a number of health conditions.

Your dentist will advise you as to how often you should make an appointment with our hygienist, for further information feel free to contact our dental practice on 020 3744 0904.

Children’s Dentistry

Taking good care of your children’s teeth from an early age is absolutely vital if you want to help them to smile with confidence for life.

From the moment they start to appear, your children’s teeth are just as susceptible to decay and other problems as your own teeth are. Even though their “baby” teeth are later replaced, they still have a huge effect on your child’s future smile.

At The Dentist Gallery, we recommend bringing your child with you to appointments even before their own teeth appear, so they can get used to the sights, smells and sounds of the practice.

Once they have their own teeth, they should have regular check-ups – we will advise you on how often these should be. These will be fairly informal, but enable us to keep a close eye on how your child’s teeth are developing.

It is important that we avoid or treat any problems with baby teeth as these can lead to similar difficulties with permanent teeth. We promote healthy eating, offer oral health advice and can give guidance to parents and children to help prevent problems occurring.

Fissure sealants can be applied if appropriate to help protect and strengthen teeth. A fissure sealant is a clear plastic fluid that is painted onto the biting surfaces of the vulnerable back teeth (molars and premolars). This dries in seconds and then acts as a barrier, helping to prevent decay.

The procedure is quick and painless. It is usually carried out as soon as your child’s permanent teeth appear. The sealant can last for many years although your child will need to return to the dentist for regular check-ups to make sure it is still in place.

Please call us on 020 3744 0904 if you would like more information or to book an appointment.

Sealants

At The Dentist Gallery, we are committed to providing preventative and proactive dentistry using the best techniques available in dentistry. Sealants protect the pits and grooves of your teeth that are susceptible to decay while keeping your grin looking great.

Sealants are thin coatings that are typically placed on the permanent back teeth, or molars, as a preventative measure. Teeth have pits and grooves that are difficult to reach and clean, even with a fine-bristled toothbrush. Ideally, dental sealants are placed soon after the molar has erupted to seal out bacteria that causes decay and cavities. While sealants are usually placed while the patient is still young, there are many adults who can benefit from sealants as well.

Placing dental sealants is a simple process. First, the tooth surface will be cleaned and etched to create a rough surface for the sealant to adhere to. Once the tooth is prepared, liquid dental sealant is applied and hardened using a special light. Once complete, the dental sealant is a sturdy, unnoticeable coating that will keep your smile protected for a long time.

Preventative dental care such as sealants keep smiles healthy and looking fantastic.

Nightguards

To keep your smile in the best shape possible, specialist at The Dentist Gallery are proud to offer nightguards. Patients can maintain the health, length and beauty of their teeth, if their needs for dental protection are from night-time grinding.

Especially while sleeping at night, you may be grinding your teeth without even realising it. This nightly grinding can pose serious risk to the integrity of the teeth, causing wear on the enamel, fractures in the teeth, and in some cases, a change in bite. We offer a comfortable solution for nightly grinding, with a custom-fit nightguard that fits easily on the upper or lower teeth to cushion teeth from the wear of grinding. You’re sure to notice a difference in the way you feel after waking up from sleeping with a custom nightguard.

What is NTI-tss Plus?

NTI-tss Plus is an innovative device designed to alleviate night-time clenching and grinding, while also reducing migraines in afflicted patients. The device itself is a small, clear, custom fit piece of plastic that fits securely on your upper or lower front teeth while sleeping. The device is non-porous (alleviating stains and odors), non-allergenic, and completely safe.

NTI-tss Plus for Clenching/Grinding

For patients who suffer from night-time clenching and grinding of their teeth, NTI-tss Plus works by reducing the intensity of the bite. The device prevents the back teeth from touching, thus reducing the pressure generated when patients bite down. This alleviates problems such as broken crowns, sore muscles, worn teeth, and neck and jaw pain.

Unlike obtrusive bite guards, the NTI-tss Plus device is lightweight, small and comfortable.

NTI-tss Plus for Migraines

Although the causes of migraines can vary, one common source of migraines is the severe clenching and grinding that occurs during sleep. By disallowing the posterior teeth from touching during night-time clenching and grinding, many patients have reported relief from migraine suffering without having to resort to other options like medications.

For those who play contact sports, Mouthwear is a perfect solution for protecting the mouth from trauma. If you play aggressive sports such as football, basketball, soccer, or hockey, ask Dr. Mundy-Burgett about a custom-fit sports mouthguard to keep your smile in top-notch shape while playing the sport you love.

Sports Mouthguards

When you are taking part in any sporting activity where there is a strong chance of contact with other participants or hard surfaces it is vital to protect your teeth from harm.

A mouthguard covers the upper teeth with the aim of cushioning a blow to the face. It can minimise the risk of damaged or broken teeth and injuries to the lips, tongue, cheeks or jaw.

Wearing a mouthguard can help give you the confidence you need to perform to your full potential, safe in the knowledge that your teeth are well protected.

A custom-made mouthguard from your dentist can offer the best protection for your smile. The rubber-like cover fits exactly over the teeth and gums making it comfortable and helping it to stay in place.

If you have any questions about mouthguards please give us a call on 020 3744 0904.

Periodontal Gum Therapy

This is the treatment of periodontal disease, commonly known as gum disease. Gum disease is caused by a thin layer of sticky bacteria, called plaque, which constantly accumulates on the teeth.

Gum disease affects the gums, bone and ligaments that support your teeth. These structures are the foundations which enable you to keep your teeth for life, but they can be damaged by bacterial infection. Gum disease can affect one tooth or many and the first symptoms often go unnoticed.

If not treated gum disease can lead to bad breath, pain and even tooth loss. In fact, gum disease is the biggest cause of tooth loss among adults in the UK. Research has also linked it to a number of medical conditions, including heart disease, strokes, diabetes and premature birth.

At The Dentist Gallery, we can offer specialist periodontal treatment for more severe cases of gum disease, which could ultimately make the difference between you keeping your own teeth or losing them.

If you suspect you may have gum disease and would like more information about this or any other dental health matter, please call 020 3744 0904.
