Orthodontics for Adults

Did you know that almost a quarter of all orthodontic patients are over 21 years old? Even so, many adults still have misconceptions about braces and are not aware of how orthodontic technology has evolved. Or, if they are aware, they believe certain procedures are only acceptable for children and adolescents to wear. If you are an adult and you think you may need orthodontic treatment to straighten your teeth or improve bite issues, you should know that there are several orthodontic procedures, many of them very discreet, that you can choose from to correct your teeth.

Many orthodontic treatments are virtually unnoticeable, and they can be just as effective as traditional braces. Treatments such as Invisalign® (clear teeth aligners),lingual braces (brackets placed on the back, instead of the front, of the teeth) can be wonderful options for adults who are concerned about the effects that orthodontic treatment may have on their appearance. Since an adult’s teeth and jawbone have already fully developed, orthodontic procedures may take longer for the best results; however, with the many advances that have been made in orthodontics, patients can experience less visible and more comfortable treatment than ever before.

For every adult orthodontic patient, our team of specialists perform a complete oral examination so that he can recommend the best possible treatment options. If you have any current issues with your teeth or jaw, such as bone loss or periodontal disease, they will need to be corrected before you receive orthodontic treatment. The Orthodontist will answer all of your questions and discuss a treatment plan with you during your initial consultation.

There are many, many options for adults that can correct a lifetime of orthodontic problems. Plus, with treatment techniques available today, no one else even has to know you are undergoing treatment!

Orthodontics for Children

Early treatment for crooked teeth is crucial. Once a child has turned 7, it’s generally a good idea to take a trip to the orthodontist. By this time, your child should already have some permanent teeth – which makes it easier for the orthodontist to rule out dental issues he or she may encounter down the road and determine if orthodontic treatment may be necessary.

Orthodontic treatment in early development can reduce future risks of impacted teeth, permanent tooth extractions, and other conditions that may necessitate invasive dental treatment. Plus, incoming teeth can be guided by the orthodontist at this stage, allowing a greater chance that once the permanent teeth start coming in, they will have adequate room to do so. Taking your child to see the orthodontist at an early age also makes it possible for him to detect subtle problems that may not be readily apparent, even if the teeth appear relatively straight. At the same time, he may find nothing out of the ordinary and recommend only periodic check-ups to monitor the progress of incoming teeth and facial and jaw growth.

Our team of Orthodontists offer a variety of orthodontic options, including braces and other procedures, to ensure a straight set of teeth accompanied by a beaming smile as your child grows!

Metal and Ceramic Braces

Traditional braces are still widely use and are very effective. Modern technologies and techniques mean these braces are smaller, more comfortable and often work faster than they used to. Traditional braces guide your teeth into a straighter position with metal wires and brackets bonded to the front of your teeth. These braces are very durable and are often very effective for patients who have severe orthodontic issues. Ceramic braces have tooth-coloured or clear brackets so are less visible.

Invisalign®

Invisalign® clear teeth aligners are custom-designed to gradually reposition your teeth. Other people are less likely to know you are undergoing orthodontic treatment since the aligners are clear and virtually invisible, transparent aligners. Invisalign® teeth aligners are also removable for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing, and are particularly suitable for those who in regularly in the public eye or who are image conscious. DW Lingual System Braces

Lingual braces are very similar to traditional metal braces, only they are actually fitted to the back of the teeth, not on the front. This means that they are highly discreet and virtually invisible to other people. Please visit www.lingualsystems.co.uk or contact us if you would like more information.
