Botox

Botox is well-known for its wrinkle-reducing effects. It is now one of the top-selling non-surgical cosmetic treatments in the UK, and continues to gain in popularity.

It works on facial lines that have been caused by repeated muscle movements, such as frown lines, lines across the forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes. It can also prove effective on lines around the lips and the corners of the mouth.

As dentists we are ideally placed to offer wrinkle reducing injections such as Botox because of our advanced knowledge of the structure of facial tissue, and our experience in carrying out intricate procedures.

The procedure is effective and simple. Botox is injected in tiny quantities, and with a very small needle, directly into the muscles that are being treated. It works by relaxing the muscles, so they are no longer habitually contracting. This means the lines caused by the muscle movement are significantly reduced or erased.

Results start to appear after about 24-72 hours, with the main effect appearing after about a week.

Azzalure is a botulinum toxin type-A specifically designed for use in aesthetic indications.  Azzalure is indicated for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines (vertical lines between the eyebrows) and is also commonly used to prevent or treat horizontal lines on the forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes and can also be used to aesthetically improve other features of the face.

Juvéderm® facial fillers are made using advanced technology and have an established safety profile. Dermal fillers are based on Hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a substance that naturally exists in your body. They are designed to effectively reduce the appearance and smooth away facial lines and wrinkles, create fuller lips and shape facial contours, such as cheeks and chin, and revitalise the skin. They are long lasting, but not permanent.

BOTOX for Bruxism (Teeth Grinding)

Botox can be injected into the masseters, the jaw muscles. The Botox in this area weakens these muscles bruxismand can be very effective for adjusting the shape of the face.

For those with a square appearance or prominent jaw musculature, the weakening of these muscles can have a pleasing effect. Bruxism is the act of grinding the teeth excessively and can result in an overdeveloped muscle in this area.

There is some suggestion that Bruxism is associated with Migraines. Certainly it can cause headaches though one of the migraine trigger zones is in the temples. Therefore, linking these two areas could be advantageous for both problems.

BOTOX for Migraine

Botox® (onabotulinum toxin A) was licensed specifically for the treatment of chronic migraine in July 2010 by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). www.migrainetrust.org

Botox-croppedBotox is now used as a preventative treatment for chronic migraine sufferers. Chronic migraine is defined as headaches on at least fifteen days per month (of which at least eight days are with migraine).

How does it work?

BOTOX blocks the release of neuro-transmitters that are linked to causing pain. Neuro-transmitters are chemicals that carry nerve impulses. To prevent headache, Botox blocks these signals from reaching the central nervous system and causing the nerves to become highly sensitive. Botox is given by injection; divided across seven specific head/neck muscle areas.

The recommended re-treatment schedule is every twelve weeks.

Botox® has not been shown to be effective for any other headache type (e.g. episodic migraine, tension-type headache, cluster headache) as yet.

Dracula Therapy

Dracula Therapy™ is a powerful anti-ageing treatment that involves using your own blood as an injectable treatment. Sometimes known as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy, Dr. Daniel Sister was the first to introduce the treatment into the UK, and has now perfected his own unique system, called Dracula Therapy™.

Dr. Sister takes a small sample of the patient’s blood (about the same amount as an average blood test). He then separates it into red blood cells, clear serum and platelets – through a process of centrifugation. Vitamins and amino acids can be added before this super-charged serum is injected into the patient, using tiny painless injections, in whichever area requires treatment.

So what does it do? Essentially it allows the body to heal faster and more efficiently. It stimulates DNA repair, heals scars and makes dry lacklustre skin look and feel younger. Not only is it an amazing anti-ageing treatment, but it also has wider uses within the medical profession, including treating hair loss and sports injuries.

Results are noticeable within 3-4 weeks and often only one treatment is required. It works especially well for the forehead, cheeks, neck, décolletage, hands, knees and elbows. It’s amazing at skin revitalisation, tackling scars (including acne scars) and stretch marks. It can be mixed with dermal fillers to treat lines, administered during the same appointment as botulinum toxin for a lifting effect and really tackle any skin related problems.

Dracula Therapy™ appeals to patients looking for a more natural approach to facial rejuvenation, i.e. rejuvenation using their own cells and more specifically, autologous platelet-rich plasma and facial augmentation without the use of synthetic fillers or animal products.

Treatment may need to be repeated every 2-6 months because of the on-going ageing process.

Dr. Sister trains other medical professionals in Dracula Therapy™ (over 100 in just 2013 alone), and has personally performed over 700 procedures.
